Prosecutors: Addison teen accused of pointing loaded gun at a mother and her kids

A 16-year-old from Addison is facing multiple criminal charges after being accused of pointing a gun with a laser sight and a loaded high-capacity drum magazine at a mother and her five children.

The male juvenile was charged Friday with three felony counts of gun possession as well as misdemeanors, including violation of an order of protection. He was ordered to be detained at the DuPage County jail until at least his next court appearance, authorities said.

According to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, Addison police responded just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of South Yale Avenue after a 911 call about a person with a gun.

Following an investigation, police say that the woman, her five children and other friends were on the woman’s driveway when a car, later determined to be the juvenile’s, drove past them.

Police allege that as the car drove past the group, the juvenile, who was a passenger in his vehicle, pointed a firearm equipped with a laser sight directly at the woman while flashing gang signs and yelling “king love.”

When officers arrived at the juvenile’s residence, authorities said, his mother gave them permission to search the home.

Officers say they found a loaded Taurus G3C handgun with a loaded drum magazine and laser sight attached to it on the teen’s bed, according to prosecutors.

The 16-year-old is currently on juvenile probation for a 2024 criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, authorities said. He is scheduled to appear in court next on April 10.
