North Aurora man accused of shooting at moving vehicle in West Chicago
A North Aurora man has been denied pretrial release after being accused of shooting at a moving vehicle last November in West Chicago.
Javier Munoz, 20, was charged Thursday with two felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and West Chicago Police Chief Colin Fleury.
Officials say the charges stem from an incident Nov. 7, 2025, at an apartment complex along Kings Circle in West Chicago.
An investigation found that a man later identified as Munoz came out of an apartment building and walked into the parking lot, approaching a Ford Explorer with a woman and her 16-year-old daughter in it, authorities said.
The vehicle started driving slowly, and after Munoz jogged to catch up with it, officials said, Munoz shot a handgun at the Explorer as it continued to drive. The shooting took place within 1,000 feet of a school, officials said.
Authorities found that the shots damaged the vehicle and shattered a nearby patio door.
An arrest warrant for Munoz was issued on March 6, and he was arrested Wednesday, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office. Munoz is scheduled for arraignment April 13.
