DoubleTree Suites in Downers Grove unveils $2M atrium ballroom
The DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Chicago — Downers Grove recently unveiled a $2 million atrium.
The hotel has constructed a fully enclosed, purpose-built ballroom within the existing multistory atrium.
The project represents a strategic rethinking of underutilized interior space. It was developed by Cicero Hospitality Group in partnership with its construction and design firm Essential Development, alongside hotel leadership and Cicero’s Vice President of Development & Acquisitions Fadi Osmano, according to a news release.
Originally built in 1986, the hotel’s multistory atrium historically served as a breakfast venue before transitioning into underutilized floor space after 2020.
Cicero Hospitality Group reimagined the atrium not as open square footage, but as architectural real estate. The project required the construction of an entirely new freestanding interior structure within the atrium footprint.
At the heart of the development is the Atrium Ballroom, a 3,605-square-foot venue accommodating up to 300 guests, complemented by The Atrium Grove, a 2,300-square-foot prefunction and reception space that maintains the openness and light of the surrounding atrium.
“This project was about unlocking opportunity inside existing architecture,” Osmano said. “Atriums are often beautiful but under programmed. We saw an opportunity to create a signature event environment without sacrificing the vertical openness that defines the guest experience.”
