St. Hubert student and Schaumburg native wins statewide art contest

Patricia Garcia, a kindergarten student at St. Hubert Catholic School in Hoffman Estates and native of Schaumburg, was the runner-up in the kindergarten through second-grade category for the annual Art Contest sponsored by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library and Illinois State Board of Education.

The theme of the art contest this year was “America 250 — Reflections Through Art” and asked students to explore the past, understand the present and dream about the future through their art. Patricia’s artwork included representations of an eagle, the American flag, two soldiers and birthday decorations celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Her artwork honored her grandfather’s service in the Navy, thanked current service members and shared her desire to one day serve her country. Patricia’s artist statement included, “For my grandpa who served in the Navy. Thank you to the people who serve our country today. One day I will serve my country.”

Winners of the art contest were invited to a ceremony on March 9 to receive recognition for their winning artwork and see their art on display at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. The artwork will be on display at the museum until May 8. The winning pieces were also featured on a poster to celebrate the arts during Illinois Arts Education Week, March 9-13, 2026.
