Des Plaines council to again consider restricting short-term rentals
The Des Plaines City Council will discuss regulating short-term rental properties when it meets Monday.
The city council has discussed regulating short-term rentals and requiring annual licenses for such businesses before, in 2017 and 2023, but nothing was formalized.
Restrictions or bans on short-term rentals are on the books in Bloomingdale, Palatine, Roselle, Rosemont, Schaumburg, Vernon Hills and other suburbs. The DuPage County Board enacted rules in October.
Many of the regulations were enacted after one person was fatally shot and others were wounded during a 2020 party at a short-term rental home in Roselle.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at city hall, 1420 Miner St. It’s open to the public, and it also can be viewed live online at desplainesil.gov.
