Mediterranean-style eatery to open second suburban location in former Schaumburg Arby’s
A Thousand Tales Restaurant/Bakery & Cafe in Mount Prospect plans to open a second, smaller location at a recently closed Arby’s in Schaumburg this summer.
The original Turkish and Mediterranean-style restaurant is in Colony Square at 2340 Elmhurst Road in Mount Prospect. The new location will be at 522 W. Golf Road, near the intersection of Higgins Road in Schaumburg.
Schaumburg Economic Development Director Matt Frank said the Arby’s site had been marketed for about a year, even as it remained open.
A Thousand Tales’ owners expressed interest in the property and applied for a building permit last October, Frank said. The Arby’s hasn’t been closed long enough to require a new special-use permit from the village board to operate a restaurant in the building.
While the Mount Prospect location is spacious enough to have its restaurant on one side and its bakery on the other, the Schaumburg site will have to be scaled down from that, Frank said.
A representative of A Thousand Tales wasn’t immediately available for comment Friday.
Between its cafe and restaurant, the Mount Prospect location operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
