Montana Dinosaur Center paleontologist Andy Rich inspires young learners at DuPage Children’s Museum
The Montana Dinosaur Center paleontologist Andy Rich presented “Story Time with a Paleontologist” on Feb. 19 at the DuPage Children’s Museum.
During the special educational program, Rich introduced pre-kindergarten children and their families to the fascinating world of ancient life, with a particular focus on dinosaurs. Through interactive storytelling, Rich read age-appropriate books about dinosaurs and prehistoric environments, fostering curiosity and early scientific literacy among young learners.
In addition to reading stories, Rich showcased genuine fossils from the Montana Dinosaur Center’s educational collection. Children were given the opportunity to observe and touch real fossil specimens up close, helping them connect stories of prehistoric life to tangible scientific evidence. The hands-on experience allowed participants to better understand how paleontologists study ancient life and interpret the fossil record.
Throughout the program, Rich actively engaged with both children and their parents, answering questions about dinosaurs, fossil discovery, the daily work of a paleontologist, and the intricacies of the Montana Dinosaur Center. The interactive discussion encouraged inquiry and reinforced the importance of science education at an early age.
Shamra, a representative of the DuPage Children’s Museum, described the program as “our most successful storytime event,” noting the exceptional attendance, high level of engagement, and enthusiastic response from families.
The Montana Dinosaur Center, located in Bynum, Montana, is dedicated to advancing public understanding of paleontology through research, education, and community outreach. The Center welcomes visitors to explore its museum exhibits, including one of the largest collections of mounted dinosaur skeletons in the region.
In addition to on-site experiences, the Center offers hands-on field excavation opportunities, allowing participants to book authentic dinosaur fossil dig expeditions under the supervision of professional paleontologists.
Schools, libraries, and community organizations may also schedule in-person or virtual presentations with a Montana Dinosaur Center paleontologist, bringing real fossils and scientific expertise directly to their audiences.
Through these programs and partnerships with educational institutions nationwide, the center continues to expand access to hands-on science experiences for learners of all ages.
