Bomb squad investigates suspicious package at Zurich North America HQ in Schaumburg
Schaumburg emergency crews and the Cook County sheriff’s bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious package that caused employees to vacate the Zurich North America headquarters Friday morning.
The package was determined to contain only paper, Schaumburg Police Commander Joe Kaminski said.
The call was received at 7:39 a.m. and the all-clear was given at about 10:15 a.m.
Zurich North America officials determined the package suspicious and called for assistance, Kaminiski said. There were no obvious external indicators of potential danger.
“Today, out of an abundance of caution, we initiated a precautionary evacuation of our Schaumburg facility due to the discovery of a suspicious package,” a Zurich spokesperson said in a statement. “We actively cooperated with local authorities as they conducted a thorough investigation. Upon completion of their investigation, the Schaumburg Police Department deemed the package benign, and the building and grounds cleared for safe return.”
