Northwest suburban leaders played both offense and defense in their public pitch Wednesday to land a new Bears stadium in Illinois instead of Indiana. Politicians, business owners, and chamber of commerce and tourism agency bosses came to the DoubleTree by Hilton Arlington Heights ballroom Wednesday night to mobilize support for a Springfield bill that would give the NFL franchise a massive property tax break — a play that would clear the way for a stadium and mixed-use district at the vacant Arlington Park property.

Buffalo Grove leaders are working to lure new grocery stores to replace a closed Mariano’s and fill space that had been slated for an Amazon Fresh store. Those were among the economic development efforts Village President Eric Smith discussed with residents Tuesday during a “President’s Pick” event.
New state legislation targets data centers’ environmental impacts
A coalition of environmental advocates introduced state legislation Wednesday to guard against data centers’ impacts on natural resources and consumers’ wallets. But Senate Bill 4016, labeled the Power Act, already is facing criticism from business groups, including the Data Center Coalition and Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.
MOM’s Organic Market making push into suburbs
A Northeast Mid-Atlantic independent organic grocer is extending its footprint into the Chicago suburbs. MOM’s Organic Market has signed leases in Mount Prospect and Naperville, officials from the grocer confirmed. The 15,000-square-foot Mount Prospect location is opening in late summer at the old Northern Tool location at 201 W. Rand Road in the Randhurst Commons Shopping Center. The 11,700-square-foot store at 1163 E. Ogden Ave. in the Iroquois Center in Naperville is slated to open in the fall.
Eggsperience, Tempesta Italian deli coming to Higgins Road in Rosemont
An Eggsperience Cafe and Tempesta Market Italian deli are coming this summer to a mini restaurant row developing on Higgins Road in Rosemont. The eateries will be part of the commercial building at 9500-9520 W. Higgins Road that formerly housed Ram Restaurant & Brewery and a Starbucks, which closed during the pandemic.
‘We always thought Arlington Heights would be good’: Once Upon a Bagel set to open in March
Once Upon a Bagel, which has operated bagel shops, delis and restaurants on the North Shore since the 1980s, is finally making the move Northwest. Its newest location in Arlington Heights, now undergoing interior renovations at 36 S. Evergreen Ave., is set to open by the end of March, according to co-owner Ira Fenton.
