Mount Prospect man fatally struck by Metra train

A person killed by a Metra train in Mount Prospect on Friday has been identified as a resident of that suburb.

Richard Greda, 55, was fatally injured about 2:15 p.m. on the Union Pacific Northwest tracks near Northwest Highway and Mount Prospect Road, the Cook County medical examiner’s office reported. The train had been headed northwest.

No one on the train was hurt. The line was shut down for about 90 minutes, a Metra spokesperson said.

Roads around the scene were closed for about two hours after the crash, Mount Prospect police said.

Metra police are investigating. An autopsy was pending Saturday.
