Glenview man accused of child solicitation

A Glenview man faces indecent solicitation of a child and other charges following an undercover investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

James W. Ropa, 65, of the 1800 block of Dewes Street, was ordered detained in the Lake County jail pending a court hearing Feb. 18.

According to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Ropa on Wednesday contacted and began communicating on social media with who he believed was a 13-year-old boy but was actually a detective.

Ropa said he wanted to meet later in the evening when the “boy’s” parents weren’t home, according to the press release, and said he intended to engage in sexual acts with the “boy” while the parents were away.

He arrived at what he thought was the boy’s home in Lake County and was met by NCIS special agents and Lake County sheriff’s detectives.

Ropa also was charged with solicitation to meet a child, traveling to meet a minor and grooming.
