Marklund hosts inaugural Run, Walk & Roll-Elgin fundraiser
A new 5K/1-mile event is hitting the streets of Elgin in April — and it’s more than just a race.
The inaugural Run, Walk & Roll-Elgin is Marklund’s newest fundraiser supporting the care of children and adults with profound developmental disabilities who receive residential and education care at the nonprofit organization.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 26.
The USTAF-certified course begins and ends at the Marklund Wasmond Center (formerly Little Angels), at 1435 Summit St. in Elgin, then winds through the adjacent neighborhoods, making it easy for neighbors to join in or cheer from the sidelines.
“We’re so excited to bring this family-friendly event to the Elgin community!,” said Heather Graves, Chief Development Officer. “It’s not only inclusive and fun -- but also a wonderful way to support our residents and students living and learning at Marklund. Whether you’re ready to set a new PR, or just want to walk with family and friends, please come join us for a great time. Every step counts — register, volunteer or donate to support Marklund’s mission.”
The Run, Walk & Roll-Elgin event is part of Marklund’s Run, Walk & Roll series, which the nonprofit has hosted since 2013, at its locations in Geneva and Bloomingdale.
Registration is open at www.marklund.org/5K. Volunteers and sponsors are being accepted as well. Register by March 13 to get a special event shirt.
