Who had last week’s top prep basketball performances?

It’s not easy keeping track of prep basketball games during the holidays.

Not far behind is trying to keep track of Martin Luther King Jr. Day basketball events.

The High Five continues to stay busy chasing down the top performances. This edition honors last week’s dazzlers, including Saturday’s games but not Monday’s from the MLK Day events.

5. Jeffrey Hassan, Kaneland

A three-game week ended in a monster outing from the Knights’ 6-foot-9 junior.

Hassan stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 22 rebounds and 5 blocked shots in a 59-39 win over Minooka to stay unbeaten on the season at 19-0.

Earlier in the week, the all-tournament pick at the Plano Christmas Classic scored 17 points against Morris and 8 points against St. Charles North.

4. Lily Fisher, Libertyville

Two weeks ago Ella Pawelczyk set a program record for points in a game with 32. Last week Fisher matched it.

The 6-1 junior scored 32 points in a 58-51 win over Prospect while becoming the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 points. Fisher followed up with a 20-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist and 4-steal effort in a 65-27 win over Warren.

In beating the Blue Devils, the Wildcats improved to 16-3 overall and 8-0 in the North Suburban Conference.

3. Brennan Shannon, Lake Park

While NBA games are 48 minutes and college slightly less at 40, high school games are relatively short at 32 minutes. That makes triple-doubles even more impressive.

Just a sophomore, Shannon put up stunning numbers in a 62-60 overtime loss to St. Charles North. The 6-7 second-year varsity player scored 14 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked 10 shots.

Already the program’s career leader in blocked shots, Shannon broke his own single-game record set last month when he had 6 blocks in a win over Burlington Central.

2. Donny Williams, Stevenson

The 6-foot senior point guard scored a career-high 32 points in a 61-58 come-from-behind victory over Metea Valley. It was the Patriots’ second win on the opening day of the Wheaton Warrenville South MLK Showcase.

Earlier in the day, Williams scored 20 points in a 47-46 win over Downers Grove North. Last week he also had 20 points while helping Stevenson beat Zion-Benton 79-40.

Williams added 10 assists in the three wins.

1. Zoe Black, Prospect

The junior set a pair of program records while earning player of the game honors in a 79-60 win over Phillips in the prestigious Coach Kipp Hoopfest.

Black scored a career-high 42 points while knocking down 11 3-pointers. She added 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

Earlier in the week, Black had 22 points and 6 rebounds in a win over Palatine, and 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss to Libertyville.
