MCC-grown elderberries to be featured in new craft beer
The Center for Agrarian Learning at McHenry County College has partnered with the Kishwaukee Brewing Company to create a limited-edition Elderberry Ale crafted using elderberries grown on the MCC student farm.
The new ale will be released at a special event from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Kishwaukee Brewing Company, 1900 Dillard Court in Woodstock.
The event invites community members to learn more about the connection between local agriculture and craft brewing while enjoying a night of activities and celebration. Event highlights include the first public tasting of the Elderberry Ale, bingo with prizes, and an opportunity to support and celebrate student-grown ingredients.
The Elderberry Ale is a 4.5% ABV beer featuring a base of barley, oats, and wheat, creating a balanced foundation that allows the elderberries to shine. The beer offers notes of currants, blackberries and blueberries, complemented by a woody, dry finish.
The event is open to the public.
