Wheaton to mark America’s 250th birthday with new tree plantings
A tree-planting program in Wheaton will help the city celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
At the start of a new year, Wheaton’s forestry division typically starts taking applications from residents who want to have a new parkway tree planted adjacent to their homes at a shared cost with the city.
Instead, the program will open slightly later in 2026, the city said in a newsletter.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Wheaton will offer shared-cost funding to install 250 new parkway trees, plus a special commemoration for each one. The city will share more details and provide an application once it is available on its website.
