Cary home a total loss after New Year's Eve fire; family dog missing

A house in Cary was a total loss following an afternoon fire New Year’s Eve and fire officials say a dog remains missing.

No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters in the blaze reported just before 4 p.m. at a two-story, single-family residence on the 1300 block of Mulberry Lane.

Fire officials said it took nearly two hours to bring the fire under control due to heavy damage to the interior, including the partial collapse of a floor.

Firefighters attempted to locate a dog inside the home, but were unsuccessful. The dog’s whereabouts is still unknown, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
