Schaumburg to celebrate village’s 70th anniversary throughout 2026
Though the village of Schaumburg’s 70th birthday will be on March 7, celebrations of this milestone are planned throughout the entirety of 2026.
A dedicated webpage has been established at Schaumburg.com/70Years that will be updated with more details as they become available during the year ahead.
One activity already prepared is a “Schaumburg Then & Now” photo submission contest to tell the village’s story through special moments of its people and places.
Selected photos will be chosen for the “Then & Now” reception Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026, at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, and remain on display in the Herb Aigner Gallery there through the end of the year.
Another planned activity is the “Rediscover Schaumburg: DIY Tour,” in which participants will be asked to take and submit photos of themselves visiting the 10 selected locations at days and times of their own choosing.
The tour destinations are the Olde Schaumburg Centre Historic District, Schaumburg Centre School, Spring Valley Nature Center & Heritage Farm, Trickster Cultural Center, the Schweikher House, the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts & Schaumburg Sculpture Park, the Schaumburg Boomers’ home stadium Wintrust Field, the Ned Brown Preserve at Busse Woods, Woodfield Mall and Schaumburg’s surrounding dining scene.
A social media campaign — “70 Things We Love About Schaumburg” — will feature video interviews with 70 people posted sporadically throughout the year.
A birthday party for the village will be held Friday, March 6, at the Schaumburg Barn, 231 S. Civic Drive.
Local dining establishments will get in on the fun with “Schaumburg Bites,” featuring village-inspired menu items. Participating restaurants will be identified with signs on their windows and on the village’s website, social media channels and the Cracker Barrel newsletter.
The village’s 70th birthday will coincide with the nation’s 250th this summer. There will be a display at the Schaumburg Township District Library, Concerts on the Square in partnership with the library, and a time capsule event at the Town Square Clock Tower around Independence Day.
Throughout the year there will be a variety of 70th anniversary swag from the village and visual reminders of Schaumburg’s birthday on village banners and signs.
The autumn will bring a 20th birthday celebration of the Schaumburg Convention Center and its Renaissance Hotel, leading up to the completion of the new village hall at the end of the year.
Lego models of iconic Schaumburg locations by WindyCityLUG (Lego User Group) will be displayed at both the summer exhibit at the library and during the winter reception at the Prairie Center.
A presentation by local historian Jane Rozek will also be part of the end-of-year reception.
Schaumburg Village Trustee Mark Madej said the events are intended to showcase the entire history of the village, but especially mark the progress made since the 60th anniversary was celebrated.
Village Manager Brian Townsend said the number of activities is considered appropriate for this particular anniversary while still keeping some ideas fresh for the 75th that’s already on the horizon.
