One person transported to hospital after fire at Vernon Hills senior living facility Monday night

One person was taken to a hospital for observation after a fire late Monday night at a Vernon Hills senior living facility.

No other injuries were reported in the fire that was reported at 8:40 p.m. and was contained to one unit on the fourth floor at the Brookdale Senior Living Apartments on the 0-100 block of East Hawthorn Parkway.

Both residents were able to escape the unit on their own before Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters arrived, officials said. One was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Minor damage was reported. The cause is under investigation.
