Hersey High School wrestling coaches placed on leave amid internal investigation

Wrestling coaches at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal review, Northwest Suburban High School District 214 officials confirmed Saturday.

The affected coaches are across both boys and girls programs, and levels such as varsity, junior varsity and freshman, said Pat Mogge, the district’s director of community engagement and outreach.

The coaches were placed on leave late Wednesday, he said.

Mogge didn’t disclose what prompted the administrative leave and investigation.

“Administrative leave is a standard practice that allows the district to complete a thorough and fair review while maintaining continuity for students and programs,” he wrote in response to questions from the Daily Herald. “Because this is a personnel matter, the district is prohibited from sharing further details at this time.”

Joe Rupslauk, Hersey’s boys varsity coach, couldn’t be reached for comment Saturday evening.

District 214 school board members met Thursday night for about a half hour in closed session to discuss personnel matters before the open session portion of their meeting. They later returned to closed session for about an hour before adjourning, but it’s unknown if the Hersey wrestling matter was discussed.
