New Geneva Road bridge open near Winfield
A stretch of Geneva Road has fully reopened to traffic near Winfield, with work on a new bridge over the West Branch of the DuPage River substantially complete.
Work zone speed limits remain in place, and drivers may still encounter intermittent single-lane or shoulder closures through spring 2026, according to the county.
The project, which has reduced the bridge to two lanes of traffic since summer 2024, removed the old two-span concrete bridge and replaced it with a new, single-span steel girder bridge.
The DuPage County Division of Transportation used more than $6 million in federal funding, along with roughly $1.7 million of local funds, to pay for the bridge reconstruction. The project also included drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction, along with the installation of retaining walls and a stormwater storage facility.
