Handel’s sacred masterpiece gets festive twist with Camerata Chicago
The Camerata Chicago Orchestra and Choir will be performing Handel's “Messiah” at three concerts in the Chicago area this weekend.
Enjoy the outstanding musical artistry of the Camerata Chicago Orchestra and Choir in this family friendly performance. The concert, which lasts about one hour, is led by guest conductor Delta David Gier, who has conducted orchestras across the U.S., including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra. He has been music director of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra since 2004.
The soloists will be soprano Emily Richter, mezzo soprano Lauren Decker, tenor Daniel Espinal, and bass baritone Laureano Quant.
This Christmas tradition features the Christmas Part I portion of the “Messiah.” They will perform the celebrated “Hallelujah Chorus” twice — the second time giving the audience the opportunity to join in for a rousing finale to this sacred music performance.
The concert series begins at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at St. Alphonsus Church, 1429 W. Wellington Ave. in Chicago.
The next concert will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at New Covenant Church, 1 Bunting Lane, at the corner of 75th and Washington, in Naperville.
The holiday concert series will wrap up at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Union Church, 137 S. Garfield St. in Hinsdale.
Tickets are $50, $40 for age 65 or older, $10 for students with photo ID, or $2 for age 14 or under (with a paid adult).
