Man gets 10 years for drug-induced homicide
A Skokie man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for supplying the fentanyl that killed a West Chicago-area woman.
Benjamin Adrien, 31, was sentenced Friday by DuPage County Judge Joseph Bugos.
Adrien pleaded guilty Oct. 6 to drug-induced homicide for the Aug. 16, 2022, death of Mackenzie Killian at her home in unincorporated West Chicago.
Killian died of multiple drug intoxication, including fentanyl. Searches of correspondence on her phone and computer led investigators to Adrien, according to court records.
Adrien will have to serve 75% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Another man, who authorities believe actually brought the drugs to Killian, was also charged with drug-induced homicide, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manufacturing/delivering fentanyl. Gilberto Almanza Jr., 27, of Evanston, was sentenced to nine years in prison May 20, according to court records.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
