Elmhurst Choral Union presents two December performances of Handel’s ‘Messiah’
The Elmhurst Choral Union announces two upcoming performances of Handel’s “Messiah” in December.
Handel’s “Messiah” is known for its setting to sacred texts and rich orchestrations. It includes the dramatic “Hallelujah Chorus,” which has become a crowd favorite during the Christmas season.
“For so many people, ‘Messiah’ is the sound of Christmas,” says Scott Uddenberg, artistic director of the Elmhurst Choral Union. “We’re thrilled to offer our audience two opportunities to experience this magnificent music live — sharing the same space with the many musicians who bring it to life.”
The first performance on Saturday, Dec. 6, features the chorus singing Part 1 of the “Messiah” with pipe organ accompaniment and professional soloists at 7 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 W. Higgins Road in Schaumburg. Tickets are $20 or $10 for up to age 18.
The second performance will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, in Hammerschmidt Chapel at Elmhurst University, 190 Prospect Ave. This performance will feature Part 1 of the “Messiah” and selections from Parts 2 and 3 with full orchestral accompaniment and professional soloists. Tickets are $30, $25 for age 65 or older, and $15 for up to age 18.
Tickets for both concerts can be purchased online in advance at elmhurstchoralunion.org or at the door (cash, check or credit card) on the day of each performance.
Attendees are invited to bring nonperishable food items to the performances. Food donations will benefit local food pantries.
