Des Plaines man charged with armed robbery of Mount Prospect grocery store
A Des Plaines man is charged with last week’s armed robbery of a grocery store in Mount Prospect.
Mount Prospect police arrested 32-year-old Luis F. Chaga-Temich Friday at his home and a “replica weapon” was recovered, authorities said. He is charged with armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful restraint, both felonies.
A motion to detain Chaga-Temich pretrial was denied and he was released. He was due back in court Tuesday.
Police said they identified Chaga-Temich after reviewing video surveillance footage.
He is accused of entering the grocery store on the 400 block of East Euclid Avenue Nov. 19 at about 5:30 p.m. and displaying a handgun to a clerk when he demanded money, according to police.
The clerk tried to flee, but was blocked by Chaga-Temich, police said. The clerk then gave Chaga-Temich an undisclosed amount of cash before Chaga-Temich fled the store and drove away in a white SUV. The clerk and another employee were not injured, and there were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery.
