Gary UMC in Wheaton offers Sunday Advent study
On Sundays, starting Nov. 30 through Dec. 21, Gary United Methodist Church is offering an Advent study looking at the names given to Jesus. In Isaiah 9:6, Jesus Christ is given four royal titles — Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.
This study, “Names for the Messiah,” from Walter Brueggemann invites participants to ponder each title and how the people understood it then, how Jesus did or did not fulfill the title, and how Christians interpret Jesus as representative of that title.
The Rev. Steve Conger will lead the Sunday study at 10:10 a.m. Participant guides are available for $20 per person through the church office, office@garychurch.org.
The church at 224 N. Main St. has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. Worship is at 9 and 11:11 a.m. Between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection. For more information, go to garychurch.org or contact the church office at office@garychurch.org.
