Naperville Sunrise Rotary to help local pantry with holiday cooking essentials
As groceries continue to cost more and food insecurity is on the rise, Naperville Sunrise Rotary will help West Suburban Community Pantry provide cooking and baking staples to neighbors in need as the holiday season approaches.
The service club will be collecting donations of packaged flour, sugar, unopened spices and cooking oil on Friday, Nov. 14, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in front of Naperville Country Club, 25W570 Chicago Ave. in Naperville.
“Most people don’t think to donate basic cooking items which families need to prepare healthy meals and holiday treats,” says Deb Newman, Sunrise Rotary Community Service Chair. “With the influx of items the pantry is receiving, limiting our drive to a few types of items not only provides cooking options, but helps pantry volunteers with sorting and shelving during this busy time.”
West Suburban Community Pantry is currently serving more than 1,000 households each week in DuPage and Will counties. The organization is seeing an increase in new families seeking assistance in recent weeks.
“As we enter the season of giving, this is a simple but powerful way to make a real impact,” says Linda Crouchelli, director of development and marketing. “Whether you are donating a few items from your pantry or organizing friends or neighbors for a bigger collection, every item helps.”
Items can also be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday at the pantry, 6809 Hobson Valley Drive, Suite 118, Woodridge.
The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise meets most Fridays at 7 a.m. for breakfast at Naperville Country Club. Check the website for meeting schedule and location.
