Wheaton church to host program on Christian nationalism
Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton is hosting author and scholar Matthew D. Taylor for “Christian Nationalism Today: Dangerous Ideas, Dangerous Leaders, and Dangerous Agendas” on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
This presentation will focus on the rapidly changing landscape of American Christian nationalism and Christian extremism. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 224 N. Main St. Register for this free event at garychurch.org/registrations.
Taylor is the senior Christian scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies in Baltimore, where he specializes in American Christianity, American Islam, Christian extremism and religious politics. He wrote the book, “The Violent Take It by Force: The Christian Movement that is Threatening Our Democracy.”
The church has vibrant music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. The church offers worship at 9 and 11:11 a.m. Between services, there’s Sunday school for all ages, a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection.
