Schaumburg wins grant to present Choral Masterwork Concert Oct. 26
The village of Schaumburg has been awarded a $12,000 Creative Project Grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency in support of its upcoming Choral Masterwork Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts.
The prestigious state grant supports Illinois-based artists, arts organizations and municipalities and will help fund the participation of professional Illinois musicians, including ensemble directors; nine guest instrumentalists; and a rehearsal accompanist.
This year’s concert brings together six Schaumburg-area music ensembles — nearly 100 musicians in all — for a powerful evening of choral and orchestral music. The centerpiece of the program is Robert Schumann’s rarely performed Requiem (1852), paired with Beethoven’s “Leonore.”
Participating ensembles include:
• Schaumburg Choral Artists (Director Tim Koll)
• SCA2 Choral Ensemble (Director Meagan Zahora)
• Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra (Director Kevan Kosobayashi)
• Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra (Director Ron Polomchak)
• Conant High School Symphony and Chamber Orchestras (Director Sophie Douvries)
The performance of Schumann’s Requiem — a work of striking beauty, emotional depth and romantic lyricism — offers audiences a rare chance to experience a neglected masterpiece of the choral repertoire. The collaboration also provides young student musicians with an invaluable opportunity to perform alongside seasoned adult performers and professional instrumentalists, deepening their musical growth and understanding.
“This project captures the heart of what our Young Artist Programs stand for: artistic excellence, community collaboration and meaningful opportunities for young musicians,” said Eddie Sugarman, assistant director of Cultural Services for the village of Schaumburg. “Schumann’s Requiem is not often heard, and this performance will be something truly special.”
The concert will take place in the Maggie Atcher Theatre at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg. The performance will last approximately one hour.
Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available through the Prairie Center Box Office, at (847) 896-3600, or online at prairiecenter.org.
