Man killed in Ingleside drive-by shooting identified

A 19-year-old Round Lake Beach man who died in a drive-by shooting Friday night in Ingleside has been identified as Alejandro Castaneda.

An autopsy Tuesday showed Castaneda died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Castaneda was attending a birthday party on the 35700 block of North Wilson Road, authorities said.

Police responding to a report of shots fired about 11:15 p.m. found Castaneda in the driveway. Despite life-saving efforts, he died at the scene, police said.

Authorities said a group arrived at the party and began arguing with another group of partygoers before leaving. That group then drove by and began shooting, striking Castaneda, police said.

Yurem Mejia-Gomez, 18, of the 300 block of Meadow Green Lane, Round Lake Beach, is charged with first-degree murder. A judge Tuesday ordered Mejia-Gomez detained pending a preliminary hearing Nov. 5.
