A 30-year-old Round Lake Heights man is in stable condition after being shot twice in the leg Thursday in Fox Lake.

About 3 p.m., an immediate care facility notified Fox Lake police of a man with two gunshot wounds. The shooting happened in a residential area on the 300 block of Route 59, police said.

According to police, the injured man and an unidentified person were involved in a verbal altercation before parting ways. A short time later, the unidentified person confronted the man as he was heading to his vehicle, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police said.

Several pieces of evidence including five spent .45-caliber shell casings were recovered at the scene, police said.

More evidence was collected in a search of a residence and associated vehicle and a person of interest has been detained, police said.

Charges are pending review by the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.
