Andy’s Frozen Custard slated to open in Bloomingdale next year

A new development in Bloomingdale will churn out concrete, and it has nothing to do with the construction business.

An Andy’s Frozen Custard plans to open on Lake Street, the village has announced amid peak pumpkin pie concrete season. It’s anticipated to open in fall 2026, according to Andy’s spokesperson Meghan Walters.

An ode to the drive-in custard stands of the past, Andy’s neon-lit shops have drive-up windows and outdoor patios with room for swarms of little leaguers. The frothy root beer float — made with legit Sprecher craft root beer out of Wisconsin and best consumed with both a straw and a spoon — is a taste of nostalgia, as is the lineup of malts, old-fashioned sodas and hot-fudge or strawberry and banana sundaes.

Andy’s also whips up seasonal concretes, and its autumnal treat blends vanilla frozen custard with a slice of pumpkin pie — the crust included — in one hefty cup.

Andy’s now has shops along Ogden Avenue and Anna Marie Lane in Naperville, Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, and Main Street in St. Charles. Nationally, Andy’s has grown to 179 company-owned and franchised stores across 15 states.

In Bloomingdale, Andy’s is coming to the former Chase Bank site at 136 E. Lake St., according to the village.

“As the largest frozen custard-only chain in the U.S., Andy’s brings not only a delicious treat but a strong brand presence with over 140 stores nationwide — including 20 in Illinois,” Village President Franco Coladipietro said in an announcement.

“Redeveloping this vacant lot will breathe new life into the area, support nearby businesses in Springbrook Shopping Center, and give residents and visitors a tasty new reason to stop by.”

The chain is teaming up with village staff on building and site design, with construction slated to begin in early 2026. Andy’s also is set to celebrate its 40th birthday next year with the “Sweet Since ’86 — Andy’s Frozen Custard 40th Anniversary Tour,” a yearlong event series. Launching in early 2026, the tour will visit all store locations across more than 30 markets. Each stop will throw a community celebration.

Founders John and Carol Kuntz opened the original Andy's Frozen Custard in 1986 in Missouri. The couple named the business after their son.
