Volo Bog to host Ghost Stories Evening Oct. 11

Volo Bog’s Ghost Stories Evening is coming from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. Gather in the Volo Bog State Natural Area picnic area on blankets and lawn chairs, nestling up in warm sleeping bags to ward off the cold (or the chill from a terrifying tale tantalizingly told). Guests can come early for an evening bog tour or to wander the Hokey Haunted Woods with a spirit leader to protect them from ghoulies and bog goblins hiding among the oaks from 5-6:45 p.m.

Registration is required, at friendsofvolobog.org. Register in advance with the name of the driver, phone number and number of adults and children, with ages of minors (minimum age 5). Pay on-line in advance or with cash upon arrival. Parking Pass is required to enter and will be emailed to those who register.

Dinner is BYO with doughnuts, cider, popcorn and more available for purchase from 5-6:50 p.m. and during intermission.

Storytelling will be from 7-9 p.m. with two sets. The first will be appropriate for ages 5 and older; after an intermission, the second set will be scarier, and is for adults and kids ages 10 and older. No late arrivals will be admitted; guests must attend the first session to attend the second session.

The storyteller will be Mike Speller, who has performed on stage and on-screen all over the United States for more than 25 years. His performances are always known for enormous energy, audience participation, fabulous facial expressions, and things that make you go “Hmmm.” His stories range from light frights for families with youngsters to ghost tales that will chill even an adult’s spine.

Registration is $10 per adult, $5 per child.

Volo Bog State National Area is at 28478 Brandenburg Road, Ingleside.
