Three facing charges of interfering with federal agents’ vehicles

Three men accused of using their vehicles to impede the work of federal agents in the Chicago area are now facing charges, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois announced Friday.

Widman Osberto Lopez Funes, 18, of Bensenville, is charged with felony assault of a federal officer and depredation of U.S. property. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, he was in Bensenville on Oct. 1 when he struck a vehicle being driven by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Miguel Escareno de Loera, 20, of Woodridge, is charged with felony assault of a federal officer. According to officials, he was in Woodridge on Oct. 2 when he struck a vehicle being driven by officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Joel Gonzalez, 23, of Chicago, is charged with a misdemeanor for forcibly impeding and interfering with a federal officer. According to officials, he was in Chicago on Oct. 2 when he impeded and interfered with a group of vehicles being driven by agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

These charges were announced during the defendants' initial appearances in federal court.
