Maine South to present teen version of ‘SIX: The Musical’
The Maine South Fine Arts Department is proud to present their performance of “SIX: The Musical: Teen Edition,” directed by Maine South theater teacher Joey Fitzpatrick.
The show will take the stage in Maine South’s auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2, 3, and 4; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1111 S. Dee Road, Park Ridge. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at bit.ly/MSBoxOffice.
“The six wives of King Henry VIII were remembered only in the shadow of one man, with their stories flattened into rhyme or reduced to footnotes,” Fitzpatrick said.
In “rock concert” style, this show is one where these women step forward and rewrite the narrative, demanding that their voices be heard on their own terms. In the director’s note for the musical’s program, Fitzpatrick asks us to see historical figures not as distant names on a page, but as three-dimensional people: complicated, emotional, funny, flawed, and deeply human. This production intends to give voice to those who have been silenced and show their stories through a new lens.
“Directing our students in ‘SIX: The Musical: Teen Edition’ has been such an amazing adventure from start to finish,” Fitzpatrick said. “Empowering our female identifying students to tell a set of stories that often go untold through the vehicle of a pop diva concert has been a unique experience that has reminded us all of the pure joy that the magic of theater brings us all.
“I've had the pleasure of seeing these students continuously lift each other up, challenge one another and find their voices. I am so very proud to share this unique, high-energy musical with our community.”
