Rolling Meadows, Hersey, Wauconda, Carmel score wins

It was a weekend that featured an inordinate number of lopsided games as the Mid-Suburban League and Central Suburban League both opened conference play.

Of the 21 games that involved area teams from Cook and Lake counties, 11 of those games went to a running clock. That included Antioch, Prospect and Fremd. In addition, both Maine South and Stevenson posted one-sided victories.

Rolling Meadows 48, Elk Grove 0:

Joe Brigham (13-0f-15, 161 yards) fired four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Mustangs (4-1, 1-0) won their fourth in a row. Brigham threw touchdown passes to Jack Andersen, Jake Harvey, Arman Lepuzanovic and Donovan Hunter. Harvey also had a touchdown run.

Wauconda 77, Round Lake 18:

Wauconda (5-0, 3-0) ran for 11 touchdowns and 532 yards. Jackson Rudolph (10 carries, 164 yards) ran for four touchdowns, Cole Korycanek (6 carries, 136 yards) ran for three scores, Brody Rudolph two touchdowns while Jaren Cookey and Nicolas Pugh-De Vito also tallied. Evan West (11-of-23, 265 yards) threw three touchdown passes for Round Lake (1-4, 0-3) to Kevin Rodriguez, Devan Powell and Marcus Regis.

Hersey 62, Wheeling 0:

Jake Nawrot (9-of-11, 285 yards) fired 6 touchdown passes as Hersey (3-2, 1-0) posted its third consecutive shutout. Jackson Wilder (3 receptions, 107 yards) had three touchdown catches. Tyler Wentink, Josh Riggs, Cooper Muller and Brandon Jenkins each caught touchdown passes. Jenkins and Jackson Travis each had touchdown runs, while Kye Parker also fired a touchdown pass.

Carmel 70, Marian Catholic 7:

Carmel (4-1) went on a long trip to Chicago Heights and came away with an impressive win.

Grant 40, Grayslake North 12:

The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1) raced to a 34-0 halftime lead. Matthew Gipson ran for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass, Tyler Zdon scored on a 15-yard touchdown run while Logan Meyers threw two touchdown passes. Grayslake North (1-4, 1-2) got a pair of late touchdown passes to avoid the shutout.

Leyden 40, Proviso East 0:

Leyden (2-3, 1-2) picked up its first West Suburban Gold win by running all over the Pirates with 264 rushing yards. Alan Buljina (17 carries, 118 yards) scored a rushing touchdown along with Nehemiah Almodovar (15 carries, 92 yards), Christopher Stephen’s and Dominic Ganir, who also caught a touchdown pass from Matthew Aguirre.

Niles West 56, Maine East 0:

Maine East (0-5, 0-1) got shut out for the fourth consecutive game.

St. Ignatius 44, St. Viator 3:

St. Viator (1-4) dropped its fourth in a row. Alex Niemiec had a 35-yard field goal for St. Viator’s points. Wynn Phillipi and Jackson Leonard each had 8 tackles while Patrick Carnel had 7 tackles for the Lions.

Stevenson 45, Waukegan 12:

Aidan Crowley threw for 113 yards and touchdown while rushing for another score as the Patriots (4-1, 3-0) won again. Hayden Hudleston ran twice for touchdowns while Cole Shein, Zach Becker and John Concialdi each caught touchdown passes. Caden An added a field goal and Concialdi and Vyas Anand each had interceptions.

Maine South 33, Evanston 0:

Jameson Purcell threw four touchdown passes as the Hawks (4-1, 1-0) won their CSL North opener. Maine South’s defense came up huge again, limiting the Wildkits to just 74 yards of total offense.

Warren 42, Zion-Benton 22:

Aaron Stewart lead the way as Warren rallied from a 22-20 halftime deficit. Warren, who had five touchdowns, scored on a pair of second-half touchdowns by Aaron Stewart. The senior tallied on a 2-yard touchdown run and a 19-yarder in the third quarter along with a two-point conversion run as Warren (4-1, 3-0) pulled ahead for good. Stewart also had touchdown runs of 12, one and 30 yards in the first half.

Grayslake Central 31, North Chicago 19:

Grayslake Central (2-3, 1-2) bounced back after its tough loss last week. Eli Gillette threw for a touchdown to Bryce Carlsson and ran for two more scores to finish with 81 rushing yards. Junior Kenye Pendleton had 24 rushes for 142 yards.

Highland Park 35, Vernon Hills 7:

Jack Gutowski returned a kickoff 85 yards for Vernon Hills (1-4, 0-1) to cut Highland Park’s lead to 14-7 in the second quarter. But the Cougars could not dent the end zone after that.

Maine West 41, Niles North 33:

Maine West (2-3, 1-0) broke their three-game losing streak as the Warriors piled up 489 rushing yards. Louis Avalos (29 carries, 277 yards) has a touchdown run while Nathan Abede (26 carries, 162 yards) ran for three touchdowns and threw to Landon Sedo for another touchdown. Davion Tate also had a touchdown run.

Libertyville 17 Mundelein 7:

After three consecutive losses, Libertyville (2-3, 1-2) turned the tide against Mundelein (1-4, 0-3). Jack Zaban booted a school and North Suburban Conference record 57-yard field goal for Libertyville.
