‘Tales & Tombstones’ takes you through Lombard’s oldest cemetery

The Lombard Park District, in partnership with the Lombard Historical Society, is hosting “Tales & Tombstones — A Candlelit Tour of Lombard's Oldest Cemetery” on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, with tours beginning at 6 p.m. This marks the fifth year of a favorite fall tradition in Lombard.

Attendees will be guided on a candlelit tour through the cemetery, where they will meet past residents of Lombard who lived here more than a century ago. Actors will share stories from the past, and participants can enjoy light refreshments prior to the start of the tour.

“This event brings history to life in a way that's both educational and entertaining,” said Rae Slowik from the Lombard Historical Society. “It's a special way to connect with the people who shaped our community, and audiences come back every year for new stories!”

Guests are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes due to uneven ground, and bring a flashlight. For safety reasons, the cemetery is not accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, or baby carriers after dark.

Note that Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Registration is available online at lombardparks.com/tombstones/.
