Who had the top prep football performances in Week 4?

Once again, prep football season brought us a little bit of everything last weekend.

And, once again, we’re here to honor the best.

This edition of the High Five looks at the area’s top performances from Week 4, featuring our first kick returner of the season.

5. Ryan Tanner, WR, Elk Grove

The Grenadiers flashed a crisp passing game while notching their first win of the season, a 24-17 victory over Deerfield in the Mid-Suburban League/Central Suburban crossover.

The 6-foot, 160-pound senior snared six catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns, including one for 54 yards. Two of the touchdowns came from quarterback Nathan Dean, while the third was thrown by Luke Maher.

4. Aden Mora, QB, Larkin

The 6-2, 158-pound senior came through when it counted in a thrilling 39-34 victory over East Aurora in the Upstate Eight West.

Mora threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, then ran in a 40-yard score later in the first half. With the Royals trailing 34-33 in the final minute of the fourth quarter, Mora stunningly found Antonio Ventura for a 48-yard touchdown pass to give Larkin the 39-34 advantage with 11.4 seconds remaining.

3. Jake Pacini, OL, Lake Zurich

The Bears moved to 3-1 with a 27-9 North Suburban victory over Libertyville, thanks in much part to the offensive line that helped pile up 359 total yards and 275 rushing yards.

Pacini, a senior center, led the line effort with teammates Oliver Goodman, Jackson Griglione, Andy Marmol and Matthew Musso.

Lake Zurich’s run game was so strong — Kaden Abrantes had 23 carries for 159 yards — the Bears didn’t need to throw the ball in the second half.

2. Luke Doyle, WR-DB, Benet

With two critical punt returns, Doyle keyed the Redwings’ 21-13 CCL/ESCC Purple win over St. Viator.

Doyle first returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to break a 7-7 tie. Then, early in the fourth quarter, his 38-yard punt return set up Joe Savino’s 5-yard touchdown run.

In addition to playing defense, the 5-11, 175-pound senior also had two catches for 13 yards and a 55-yard kick return.

1. Logan Abrams, RB-LB, Cary-Grove

Abrams was a load on both sides of the ball in a 34-27 Fox Valley Conference victory over previously unbeaten Huntley.

The 6-3, 230-pound senior carried the ball 35 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Abrams had a sack and three tackles, including one on fourth down in the waning minutes to preserve the win.
