Lightning strike suspected in Geneva-area house fire
A lightning strike is the suspected cause of a fire that resulted in $325,000 damage to a home Saturday morning in unincorporated Geneva.
According to the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District, firefighters responding about 7:54 a.m. saw fire coming through the roof of a single family home at 0N432 King Drive.
A neighbor had called 9-1-1 and occupants were able to get out of the home without injury, firefighters said.
The fire was located primarily in the attic. Several neighboring departments were called to keep it from spreading, according to a news release.
The fire was contained with only minimum spread and the scene was declared clear within about 30 minutes.
“We’re very thankful it was during the day and people were home and it was reported quickly,” said Chris Spitzock, battalion chief.
