Second person dies following Tuesday house fire in Wood Dale

A second person has died from injuries she suffered in a house fire Tuesday in Wood Dale.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the woman as 68-year-old Sandra Dahlberg. She died late Thursday at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, according to medical examiner’s report.

Dahlberg’s husband Douglas was also injured in the fire, family members said. His condition is unknown.

A third resident of the home, 44-year-old Rebekah Coyne, died at Alexian Brothers hours after she was transported there from the scene of the fire on the 100 block of Edgebrook Road.

Firefighters were called to the single-family home at about 1:40 a.m.

Fire officials said one of the residents was attempting to extinguish the blaze at the rear of the house with a garden hose when they arrived. Still, the fire caused significant damage to the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
