Schaumburg to Host Annual Fall Recycling Event Oct. 4

The village of Schaumburg will host its annual Fall Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the west parking lot of Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Road. The community-wide event will offer document destruction, electronics recycling and latex and oil-based paint recycling. Some items will incur fees.

Docu-Shred will provide document destruction on site until the truck is full. After the truck reaches capacity, documents will still be accepted and securely destroyed off site. Each vehicle may bring up to two banker boxes of documents to be shredded.

EarthPaint.org will accept both latex and oil-based paint for recycling for a fee. Charges for latex paint are $2.99 per quart, $5.99 per gallon, and $19.99 per 5-gallon container. Charges for oil-based paint are up to $5.99 per quart, $9.99 per gallon, and $25.99 per 5-gallon container. Fees are based on the size of the can being disposed, regardless of the amount of paint inside. Containers should not be mixed. Elgin Recycling will collect electronics including computers, small appliances, cellphones, electronic toys, copper wire and more. Televisions and monitors under 21 inches will incur a charge of $25. Televisions and monitors 21 inches and over will incur a charge of $35. LCD monitors will incur a charge of $15. A full list of accepted items and fees is available at schaumburg.com/recyclingevent. Elgin Recycling will accept cash or credit on site.

The event will not accept hazardous waste, oil, antifreeze, clothing, fire extinguishers or large appliances. Residents can dispose of hazardous waste at the Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 156 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville, which is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Schaumburg residents may also attend an earlier Document Destruction Event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 20, in the parking lot of the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg. Participants should enter Schaumburg Court from Prairie Center Drive. This is a drop-and-go event and IDs are required.
