Set within the scenic backdrop the South Mill Creek neighborhood, the Run, Walk & Roll-Geneva kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Marklund Hyde Center, 1S450 Wyatt Drive, Geneva. After the race, participants are invited to gather for food, music and great company at the Party in the Park adjacent to the finish area in one of Batavia Park District’s iconic locations — the Mill Creek red barn.
“This is more than just a race — it’s a chance to directly support Marklund’s mission to make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities,” said Danie Frank, race director.
Designed for all ages and skill levels, this event is perfect for seasoned athletes and first-time participants alike. As an added incentive, every participant receives a commemorative medal, with exclusive award medals going to top finishers. This inclusive event also welcomes individuals in wheelchairs. Many Marklund residents participate in the 1 Mile, with family members or volunteers assisting by pushing them through the course.
“I could not be more thrilled, and proud to see this event still going strong — due in large part of our generous families, donors, staff and community members,” said Heather Graves, chief development officer. “We’re not only able to raise critical funds, but we’re able to come together and offer a true inclusive and social fundraiser.”
Volunteers needed
Not racing? No problem. Volunteers and spectators are needed to help make this event so special. Volunteers help in a variety of capacities, from serving as course marshals, working the food booth, helping with setup and tear-down, and even cheering on the participants.
This year’s Run, Walk & Roll-Geneva presented by The Fitch Foundation is sponsored by nearly 30 local businesses and organizations. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Danie Frank at dfrank@marklund.org.
Marklund’s Run, Walk & Roll was established in 2013 as a fun and community-friendly way to raise awareness and support for Marklund’s programs and services. Since its inception, the Run, Walk & Roll Series has raised nearly $1.4 million in net proceeds to support the children and adults with developmental disabilities being cared for at Marklund.
