Irish Classic golf tournament to benefit Mercy Circle senior living community

Over the winter, Tom Ramsden, Mercy Circle’s director of development, came up with the idea of an Irish Classic golf tournament to benefit the nonprofit senior living community in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood.

He mentioned it to Bob Miller, president of Jan-Pro Franchise Development of Northern Illinois. Although Ramsden and Miller both grew up on Chicago’s South Side, they only met a few years ago after both had moved to the suburbs (Ramsden to Des Plaines; Miller to Park Ridge). Miller offered to do “whatever he could to help.”

In short order, Miller’s company became the principal sponsor of the event — an example of two former Southsiders teaming up to benefit Mercy Circle, a nonprofit, faith-based senior living community sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.

The tournament will debut on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Ridge Country Club, a private club located in the historic Beverly neighborhood of Chicago. Five golfers will participate in a hole-in-one “shootout” to win a trip to play iconic courses in Southwest Ireland.

Registration for the Irish Classic opens at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, followed by lunch; shotgun play starts at 1 p.m. Cocktails and dinner begin at 5 p.m.
