Center of Concern hosts special event on housing stability
Networking, Expert Panel, and Annual Awards Ceremony at the Des Plaines Theatre on Monday, Sept. 8
The Center of Concern has announced a special event dedicated to addressing how housing stability impacts people across ages on Monday, Sept. 8. The evening will start with appetizers and networking at 5:30 p.m. and an expert panel discussion and awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted at the historic Des Plaines Theatre and will provide socializing, insightful discussions, and recognition of extraordinary community members who support the Center of Concern’s mission to enable vulnerable residents to live with dignity and independence. There is no cost to attend, though donations are encouraged.
“Stable housing is the foundation for health, connection and opportunity. At the Center of Concern, we see every day how critical it is for people of all ages to have a safe place to call home,” Center of Concern Executive Director Nicole Coomer said. “This event brings our community together to discuss solutions and celebrate those working so that no one is left behind."
Guest speakers include experts Christine Haley, chief homelessness officer for the state of Illinois; Katie Eighan, continuum of care planning director at the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County; Diane Slezak, president and CEO of AgeOptions; and Deana Liss, executive director of Elderwerks. Illinois State Rep. Michelle Mussman will serve as the discussion moderator and Congresswoman Delia Ramirez will provide opening remarks.
The panelists will discuss housing stability through the lens of their unique expertise, exploring options for older adults such as aging in place, accessing support services, or transitioning to assisted living. They will also examine the broader realities affecting people of all ages, including the challenges of the current housing shortage and potential community-driven solutions.
Center of Concern annual award recipients include Volunteer of the Year, Kathi Stweart of Des Plaines; Dee Heinrich Award, Lynda Santrella of Des Plaines; Excellence in Leadership award winner Paul Swanson of Park Ridge; Partner of the Year, Jeanette Zirngbl of Arlington Heights; and Partner of the Year, Jan Goczkowski of Des Plaines.
