Two men facing charges in beating at Fox Lake business

Two men authorities said were involved in the beating of a 33-year-old man Aug. 11 in Fox Lake are facing mob action and other charges.

Fox Lake police responded about 12:24 p.m. to a 911 call of a battery at a business on the 800 block of West Grand Ave. Officers found Justin Lauder, 33, sitting outside at a table with extensive injuries.

Police said Lauder was followed into the bathroom and attacked by Joseph D. Abbott, 46, of the 1000 block of Brian Court, Antioch.

The 911 caller had locked himself in the bathroom and Abbott and Noah D. Argiewicz, 41, of the 36000 block of Stanton Point Road, Fox Lake, tried to force their way in, police said.

Argiewicz helped Abbott and the pair fled, police said. Arrest warrants for the pair were approved Aug. 22.

Abbott is charged with one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, one count of aggravated battery in a public place and one count of mob action, all felonies.

Argiewicz is charged with one count of mob action, a felony, and one count of aggravated assault in a public place, a misdemeanor. He was taken into custody by Lake County sheriff’s deputies Aug. 27. A detention request was denied and he was released with pre-trial conditions and a court hearing set for Sept. 23.

Abbott turned himself in early Friday at the Lake County jail. He is being held pending first appearance court.

Police said Lauder was hospitalized but released a few days later.
