Elk Grove Village officials have scheduled a town hall for Ascension Illinois executives to answer questions about the proposed closure of a 28-bed inpatient obstetrics department at Ascension Alexian Brothers Medical Center. The public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Belvedere Events & Banquets.
Developer defends concept of gated community on former PepsiCo site in Barrington
The developer of a proposed gated community, the Claremont, with 88 custom luxury homes on the 94-acre former PepsiCo site in Barrington told the village’s plan commission this week he has revised his plan. The commission held its second hearing Tuesday. Another is scheduled for Aug. 26.
Libertyville joins most others in enacting local grocery tax
Libertyville will join an overwhelming majority of communities replacing the state grocery tax with a local version starting Jan. 1, but the decision came with a spirited give and take. The 1% state sales tax collected on groceries is being eliminated and communities have been given authority to enact their own to replace it.

Mere months after opening in South Elgin, the owners of Legit Dogs & Ice announced on social media that the restaurant would close Aug. 24. Located in a strip mall at 322 Randall Road, Legit offered elaborate gourmet hot dogs and burgers as well as Hawaiian shaved ice, served in a space with a punk rock and skateboarding sensibility that reflected the interests of owners Matthew Habib and his wife Jennifer Polit.

93 Octane Brewery expanding to Elmhurst next week
93 Octane Brewery, a gas station inspired brewery in St. Charles, is opening a new location in Elmhurst next week. Founded inside a Pride store selling BP fuel, 93 Octane began as a 20-seat nano-brewery in St. Charles. Since then, the momentum of the brewery hasn’t slowed, expanding its craft beer selection, and developing a regionally sourced food menu to be served alongside its drinks.
