‘Celebrate the Women’s Vote’ with a fun fair on Woodstock Square
On Sunday, Aug. 17, “Celebrate the Women’s Vote!” will mark the 105th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which recognized the right of women to vote.
Hosted by local McHenry County Chapter of the League of Women Voters and the McHenry County Historical Society, this free, family-friendly fun fair will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on the historic Woodstock Square.
This nonpartisan event includes informative displays, interactive games and fun activities provided by local civic groups and volunteers. Inspiring speakers will showcase exceptional women and girls of all ages who have helped make history — then, now, and into the future.
Bring your camera to snap a photo with “Miss Susan B. Anthony.” Historical actor and storyteller Lynn Rymarz will speak out for the women’s vote, rally the suffragettes, and offer one-on-one chats with visitors throughout the day.
Also speaking will be the legendary Sojourner Truth, the renowned abolitionist and champion for women’s rights, as personified by civil rights historian/advocate Gloria Von Hof of Crystal Lake.
This free event is handicapped-accessible and fun for all ages. Parking is available around the Square and in nearby city lots, and the Metra train station is only 2 blocks away. This event is co-hosted and staffed by volunteer members of the nonprofit, nonpartisan League of Women Voters of McHenry County and the McHenry County Historical Society.
