Wheaton’s Gary UMC hosts outdoor worship and picnic

Enjoy the last days of summer with a worship service in Memorial Park in Wheaton.

Gary United Methodist Church will hold “Worship in the Park” on Sunday, Aug. 17, in Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave. in Wheaton.

The 10 a.m. service will include music, prayer, scripture reading, children’s time and a sermon. Bring a lawn chair or blanket or use one of the provided theater seats. All are welcome to worship and enjoy a picnic lunch after the service. Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share.

This year, the church is “going green” with reusable dishes and cloth napkins, compost containers and recycling bins.

The church at 224 N. Main St. has celebrated deep roots in the community since 1853. The church has music, kids, youth and adult ministries, plus opportunities for local, national and global missions. This summer, the church offers worship at 9 a.m., including Kids’ Church. At 10 a.m. there’s a coffee fellowship hour, plus the chapel is available for prayer and reflection. Starting Sept. 7, the church will restart its second service at 11:11 a.m. Sundays, along with Sunday school for all ages between services.
