Little Bear Ribfest returns to Vernon Hills Aug. 15-16

Enjoy blues, brews and barbecue when the Vernon Hills Park District's Little Bear Ribfest returns Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15 and 16. The 14th annual festival will take place along the shores of Little Bear Lake at the Century Park Arboretum, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

Festival hours are 6-11 p.m. Friday and 4-11 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to a lineup of award-winning country and blues musicians, numerous local rib vendors will be on hand serving ribs and side dishes for purchase. There will also be the popular bourbon bar and beer tent. Vendors scheduled to take part include Big Ed's BBQ, The Full Slab Smokehouse and Bar, Brothers' BBQ, Real Urban Barbecue, Smokin BBQ on 45, and Boonie Mac Shack.

The Mundelein/Vernon Hills Rotary Club will also be roasting corn and Bo-Bo's restaurant will be offering ice cream and other desserts.

Friday will be Country Music Night, with performances by Nashville Electric at 7 p.m. and Tennessee Whiskey, a tribute to Chris Stapleton at 9 p.m. Saturday will be Blues Music Night, with performances by Dave Weld & The Flames at 5 p.m., Shawn Holt & The Teardrops at 7 p.m. and John Primer & The Real Deal Blues Band at 9 p.m.

There are picnic tables in the park, but guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Only approved service animals will be allowed into the park during Ribfest. Coolers and outside food are not permitted with the exception of food and beverages for young children.

  Little Bear Ribfest will feature ribs and sides for sale from local vendors, as well as country music on Friday and blues on Saturday. Paul Valade/pvalade@dailyherald.com. 2015

Admission is $5, free for ages 5 and younger. Proceeds benefit the Family Scholarship Program.
