Warrenville launches ‘Smile. Wave. Repeat.’ campaign to spread kindness

What makes a community feel welcoming?

That’s the question the Warrenville Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness Commission (IDEC) asked during the city’s Multicultural Fest. The most common answer? Not fancy programs or big events — but a smile or a wave.

Inspired by that heartfelt feedback, IDEC created “Smile. Wave. Repeat. The Warrenville Way,” a community-wide kindness challenge inviting everyone in town to reconnect through small, meaningful gestures.

Here’s how it works:

• Pick up a challenge kit with, among other things, a campaign sticker, a kindness checklist, and an explanation of the campaign.

• Display the sticker in a window, car, or business as a sign of participation.

• Smile, wave, and share your story using the hashtag #WarrenvilleSmiles to keep the good vibes going.

The campaign welcomes all residents, families, local businesses, faith groups, and city services to join in. Whether you're 5 or 85, this movement is for anyone who believes a kind word or friendly gesture can make someone’s day.

Megan Legler's thoughts: “Warrenville has always had a strong sense of community, this campaign is about celebrating that and inviting even more people to feel included. It doesn’t take much to make someone feel like they belong.”
