Suburban firefighters to play hockey for charity

Watch suburban firefighters battle each other in charity hockey matches Aug. 2.

“Fire on Ice” is set to run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nicholas Sportsplex, 1501 Feehanville Drive, Mount Prospect. Admission is free.

Representatives of 16 departments are scheduled to face off. Silent auctions, raffles and other activities also are planned.

The event will benefit families of fallen and injured emergency personnel through the 100 Club of Illinois and the Shield 23 Foundation. The Arlington Heights Benevolent Association and Des Plaines Professional Firefighters Association are hosting the event.
